We know that being homeless or being at risk of homeless is frightening and very stressful. We are here to listen to you, give you advice, and help you find a long-term solution.

If you are homeless or at risk of losing your accommodation, please contact us straight away by calling 029 2057 0750 or emailing housing.solutions@cardiff.gov.uk. You can also speak to someone at your local Hub.

If you are eligible, we will give you an appointment to work out how we can support you. While waiting for your appointment, please do not give up your tenancy. You should also continue paying your rent.

We will work with you to keep you in your home, as long as this is a safe option.

If you are renting, you have the legal right to remain in your home until a Court Bailiff Warrant asks you to leave. We understand that this can be stressful and frightening, but your Prevention Officer will support and advise you through this.

Whether you rent privately or through a community landlord, we will work with you to make sure you both understand the process.

If communication between us and your landlord is unsuccessful, we will work with you to find alternative accommodation. This could be in the private sector or social sector.

If you are an owner occupier struggling with mortgage payments, we will work with you to make sure you understand the process and may also attend court with you if needed.

What to expect at your appointment

We will work with you to create your own personal housing plan. This will include step by step actions to help resolve your housing situation.

Depending on your circumstances, we may be able to support with:

  • rent arrears,
  • mortgage arrears,
  • managing debt,
  • managing benefits and outgoings,
  • family or landlord relations to help keep you in your home, and
  • access to private rented accommodation. This includes financial help with a deposit and rent in advance (where eligible), speaking to landlords and agents on your behalf, and Home Finder Workshops.
