Homeless person moving into accomodation

We work with partners to provide accommodation specifically for people with complex needs.

The services for rough sleepers and homeless people with complex needs are co-ordinated through the Homeless Multi-Disciplinary Team.

The aim of the service is to empower people to make positive changes in their lives and work towards a sustainable and positive future.

The service brings together a wide range of professionals from housing, social services, health and the third sector to address the underlying cause of rough sleeping and repeated homelessness.

The service provides 6 high quality supported accommodation schemes, Housing First, and other support services for the most vulnerable people.

We have a dedicated team for young people with complex needs and the service also operates 3 managed accommodation schemes. These schemes provide long term accommodation with an on-site housing management service to help the person move on from supported accommodation.

Homelessness is often the main reason why someone is referred to the service. We can also meet the needs of people who:

  • are engaged in substance use,
  • have mental health support needs,
  • are involved in criminal justice,
  • need support navigating complex support systems, and
  • want to find their own move on accommodation.

Each of the sites are staffed 24 hours a day and staff are available to provide advice and support throughout this time.

Each accommodation has its own arrangements for paying rent and utilities. In most cases, residents rent is covered by housing benefit.

In some accommodation, residents need to cover their own utility costs. In others, they need to pay a weekly contribution towards the running of the building.

New residents moving into the accommodation will have an induction and will need to sign a license agreement. This can be converted to a supported standard contract after a 6 month period.

We can provide accommodation for couples. We will consider dogs on a case-by-case basis.

When residents move on from supported accommodation, they may move to accommodation in the private rented sector, or they may be offered a council housing option.

We provide opportunities to residents, such as:

  • education,
  • training, and
  • activities to help support health and wellbeing.

We encourage residents to take part in productive and rewarding activities. We can also signpost towards other opportunities, organisations and support in Cardiff and beyond.
